What can the Flying Sun 1000 drone do?

What if you could turn night into day — from the sky?
That’s exactly what Freefly Systems, a U.S. drone company, aims to do with their Flying Sun 1000. Built on the powerful Alta X drone, this flying light rig carries 288 ultra-bright LEDs capable of delivering a blinding 300,000 lumens — enough to illuminate entire construction sites, rescue zones, or film sets from up to 100 meters in the air.
Each of the drone’s four lighting panels mounts beneath its propellers and is powered either by heavy-duty batteries or, more efficiently, via a cable connected to an EV, generator, or other ground power source.
Flying Sun 1000 can light over 12,000 square meters from the sky — but only for 5–10 minutes if relying on battery power alone. A cheaper, smaller version called Flying Sun 500 is also available.
At a price of $60,000, it’s not for casual use — but for professionals who need daylight on demand, it’s a flying sun indeed.
