Why? In American slang, “86” can mean to eliminate or get rid of something, and Trump is the 47th president. Put together, the message "86 47" was viewed by critics as a thinly veiled threat.
According to Reuters and NBC News, the phrase “86” has been used in contexts like “kicking someone out of a bar” or even “getting rid of someone entirely.” Now, Comey is reportedly under investigation over the post.
Whether intentional or misinterpreted, the controversy has reignited political tensions — and blurred the line between digital expression and real-world consequences.
